The Art Therapy: In-person sessions

Individual Art Therapy is a one on one therapeutic experience between the client and the Art Therapist.  Individual Art Therapy sessions are available for Tweens, Teens, and Young Adults.

For Tweens and Adolescent clients, parents participate in parent sessions, determined by the specific need of each individual client.

The Tween Transition!  From about 11-13 years of age.  The Preteen years are one of the most challenging times in your child’s life.  Tweens are confused and frustrated about all the changes they are going through physically and mentally.  Oftentimes, this age group will need guidance in figuring out how to navigate this turbulent new landscape.

Adolescents: When teens are going through a rough time, such as family troubles, academic pressure, or lack of peer connectedness, they might feel more supported if they talk to a therapist or participate in group therapy.  They may be feeling sad, angry, or overwhelmed by what’s been happening and need support sorting out their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to move towards feeling confident.

Does your Teen struggle with any of these issues?

  • Feels sad, depressed, anxious, or just stressed out.
  • Excessively dieting, overeating, or restricting food.
  • Dealing with attention, impulsive, or learning problems.
  • Coping with an illness or a new mental health diagnosis.
  • Dealing with family changes such as divorce, alcoholism, or addiction.
  • Trying to cope with a traumatic event, death of a loved one, or worry over world events.
  • Using unhealthy ways to manage emotions such as self-harm cutting or burning.
  • Wants to sort out problems like managing anger.
  • Wants to build self-confidence to build supportive relationships with peers.

How do online Teletherapy Art Therapy sessions work?
Teletherapy with Art or Play Therapy is integrated as a way for clients to manage and regulate their emotions when words become overwhelming.
    • Sessions work much the same as traditional sessions in my Art Therapy office with one main difference- we are looking at each other on-screen rather than side-by-side in the same room.
    • Sessions are scheduled
    • Approximately 10 minutes before your appointment, you’ll receive an email appointment reminder.
    • Click the unique link embedded in the reminder.  Your video call screen will then open in a new tab.
    • When you’re ready, join the video call!

How do you prepare for a Teletherapy Art or Play Therapy session?
    • Have a quiet and private space designated for your Teletherapy session.
    • Use a headset or earbuds for additional privacy.
    • Select simple materials ahead of time such as paper, markers, colored pencils, glue stick, tape, scissors, and eraser for easy access. I suggest creating a bin for these items in order to make them easily accessible for future ongoing sessions.
    • Additional items for younger clients may include Play-Doh, Legos, Uno cards, or books.

How do you pay for your Teletherapy sessions?
The fee for services at this time is via SimplePractice.
