Monica Leysa, MA, MT-BC
I am a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) and graduate of Montclair State University where I received my Master’s degree in Music Therapy and my Bachelor’s degree in Health Communication with a minor in Musical Theater. I am also a music instructor providing voice, piano, and guitar lessons as well as adapted lessons for children and adults.
I completed my clinical internship at Fellowship Senior Living in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, where I provided one-to-one and group sessions for older adults with diagnoses including dementia/Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. During my internship, I also worked closely with individuals in end-of-life care. I have experience working with several populations, including children and teens in an acute-care hospital setting, children diagnosed with autism and ADHD, young adults and adults in an in-patient psychiatric setting, and adults in hospice care.
Music has always been my avenue for self-expression and connection with others. I feel that meaningful relationships can be developed by creating music together. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and meeting clients where they are in order to navigate through life’s challenges and celebrate individual accomplishments with music. I hope to help others utilize the musical experience as a means of empowerment to overcome obstacles and promote wellness.
I am a member of New Jersey Association for Music Therapy.
